This rice stand is made of straw wood from Kiso, Nagano Prefecture. Straw wood is resistant to water and has been used since ancient times for barrels and the like.
Because it is finished one by one with a plane, it is highly resistant to water and moisture absorption.
It is said that transferring freshly cooked rice into an ohitsu removes the rough heat and brings out the original sweetness of the rice.
The moisture-absorbent straw material absorbs the steam from the rice and keeps the rice tasty without making it watery.
